ABOUT

Melissa J. Heinig is a compassionate and detail-oriented attorney practicing in Livingston and surrounding Counties.  After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2004 from Western Michigan University, Melissa went on to graduate from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 2010 in the top third of her class. During her time in law school, Melissa participated in multiple volunteer programs, including Prison Legal Services, Elder Law of Michigan and Legal Services of South Central Michigan.

Melissa is a sole practitioner and owner of The Law Office of Melissa J. Heinig. She prides herself on her excellent client communication skills, ability to empathize with every client, and her ability to pay attention to the details and get the best outcome for her client's cases.

Melissa has more than eleven years combined of volunteer and career family law, LGBT law, contract law, landlord/tenant law, and estate planning experience. Melissa's primary focus has been child custody, parenting time, child support, father's rights, adoption, LGBT issues, guardianship, contract disputes, estate planning, landlord/tenant issues, and general civil issues. While she does enjoy the non-adversarial part of settling a case, she also fights aggressively to protect her client's rights and best interests.

In addition to standard legal work, Melissa also writes for DivorceNet.com, Nolo.com, and Lawyers.com. She works to provide many hours of pro-bono work for those in need, and she has also become a frequent contributor to www.avvo.com, where the community comes seeking legal assistance.

Melissa also welcomes anyone in the LGBTQ community to her law firm and would be happy to assist you with the specialized family law and estate planning for today's world.
